How do you get the pounds off?
That is a question that I have struggled with my whole life. I remember being a young teenager and thinking...I just won't eat. Then what happens? We all know....you go home and BINGE. You might be able to do it for a few days...and then it's over. What diet do I try next?
Then you decide you're going to exercise. You get consistant with your workouts for about 2 weeks. You don't lose a lb and you say what??? Forget this crap. I have worked out for 2 weeks and didn't lose an ounce.
Then you say...I'm going to start eating healthy. You look for low fat options, or veggies. If you are like me you probably thought that Fat Free Saltines were ok to eat because they are fat free? Or Candy corn..hahah ...those are fat free! Even my favorite Peppermint Patty's. Oh those are fine...they are fat free. I'm sorry....BUT NOPE!
You want to get the weight off??? It is time to lace up those sneakers and Make Healthy Happen!!!
Here is what has worked for me!
This all sounds so easy...actually it really is easy, you just have to be CONSISTANT, DEDICATED, BELIEVE and TAKE ACTION!
1- Count your calories - There are different ways to do this. You can use the 21 Day Fix Food plan and the container system and that has your calories precounted for you. Makes it easy for you to stay on target and be sure you are eating the right foods.
I personally really feel the need to count my calories. I want to know what is going into my body. That being said, I eat the foods on the 21 Day Fix Food plan because this is an AWESOME Guide to clean eating.
I use the My Fitness Pal App to count my calories. Now....if you have followed my posts you know I have had some issues with Protein/Carbs. I didn't eat enough protein - I starting having sugar low's. Then I was not eating enough carbs and started having heart palpitations. Because of my workouts these deficiencies held me back. I had to cut back on my workouts to stay healthy. This is when a friend of mine told me about MACROS.
I had no idea what Macros were. I still get a little confused, but what I can tell you is the My Fitness Pal APP tracks MACROS :) Yay! So now when I eat I set my macros at 40% Carbs, 30% Fat & 30% Protein. You enter your calories into the app and it tracks your macros fo ryou. When you start doing this you will see what you eat that is hurting you and messing up your Macros :) I had to cut down on my Peanut intake because it was increasing my fat! Now I'm sure to get the right amount of carbs, fat and protein at all times.
So, count your calories and be sure to eat the right amount of Carbs, Protein & FAT. You need this balance to make your body function properly. If you are working out hard and not eating CARBS...You are going to have issues eventually and visa versa!
2- WORK OUT! Ok...we all know exercise is good for us, right? Here is what I have learned on my journey. I always said...for me..walking a 1/2 hour a day does not give me the results I need. You will see this when you enter your exercise into the My Fitness Pal app. You just don't burn enough calories. I know my body needs to work hard to get results. I started out with P90X3. This program is not a cake walk. If you are serious and want to see a change in your body, this is the type of workout you need. It focuses on core & cardio! You are not really even doing situps. Everyone things core is situps. Nope. I never did a plank until X3. You are going to have to work! This is just my opinion and what has worked for me....Walking should be an extra! Running is FANTACTIC...but if you are not working your core....you are missing out on feeling Amazing. Now that being said.....You should do it all. work on running, do the walking, but also DO YOUR WORK OUT VIDEOS! They work...they get the job done!
I know we have all heard that you can work out 3 times a week and it is good for your health. Yes, that is true. You at least need that amount of exercise in a week as a baseline. We want results here right? 6 days a week friends for a least 30 minutes a day of serious exercise. You do this....you will see the results you are looking for!
Rule: CARDIO + RESISTANCE TRAINING + CLEAN EATING = RESULTS!!!!!
It is really that simple! You need to be dedicated to all of the above to get results. If you just do one...you might see some changes, but you have to do it all. Fitness and Eat Clean! You have to count your calories and macros! You can't stave yourself...you need to eat! When you work out you get more calories and be sure to eat those. If you don't you can can weak and have issues like I explained above.
This is all what I have experienced in the last year and a half and what has worked for me. It has not been fast losing and that is ok. Be consistant, change you lifestyle and workout!
