First 5K - Shamrock Shuffle

It is just about my 1 year anniversary from when I started my Journey with Beachbody! It is funny how things change in your life from just doing one simple thing...GETTING ACTIVE & EATING HEALTHY!

About 1 year ago I weighed 250 lbs and was headed down a bad road. I was 39 years old and if I did not make a change, my future was not going to be what I desired in my heart. I started 30 minutes a day and here I am now! I'm dedicated to fitness and being healthy. I'm not going to sit hear and tell you this is going to be easy, because it is not. One of my favorite quotes is, "It does not get easier, you just get stronger". This quote it with out a doubt the absolute truth. When I am doing push ups in a video I often think of this quote because when I first started I could not do a push up. I struggled just to hold my self in plank, on my knees. Now....I am working just as hard and doing Pushups!

Now...I'M NOT A RUNNER! Well, maybe I'm starting to be...LOL! I honestly have always hated running. Maybe that is in part because I could not run? I started a few months ago trying to run a mile here and there on the treadmill. I started to MAYBE enjoy it a bit :) So I saw a flyer for the Shamrock Shuffle for our local - Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, NH. I asked my family if they wanted to do the 5K with me and everyone thought it would be fun. We don't really get involved in a lot of things in our community, so this was different for us. My husband and I decided to run the race and the rest of the family walked it! It is ok....WALK or RUN..the main goal is to accomplish being fit, getting fresh air and being involved in the community for a good cause!

We had a blast. Being together as a family was very special! It was felt really good to be supported by everyone in my family and to see that the change and dedication I have made in my life is helping my family to get moving too!! So they blew the HORN to start the race and off we went :) My goal was to run the entire race! The other runners were blasting past me, but I knew that I had to maintain my own pace to make the entire race. I had so many emotions going through my mind...and then we come around the corner and there is a pretty sizable hill to run up..Oh no, can I do this? I just went slow and steady and made it. Step by step, hill by hill, street by street we got through the full 3.1 miles without stopping. My husband Bill stayed with me and played my tunes on his cell phone :) It was fun to do as a couple. When I crossed the finish line I felt so PROUD and HAPPY! I made it! My first 5K and I must stay, we actually enjoyed running! For the first time I really enjoyed RUNNING! Yay!

My family finished the race too! Billy and I went back to meet them and I took my daughter (9) and neice (6) and pushed them the rest of the way. They ran the last 1/4 mile of the race with me and crossed the finish line! What an accomplishment! MIND, BODY & SOUL!

So my first 5K was a SUCCESS! A success for my whole family! If you are thinking about yourself and your fitness and want to make a change, I want you to think of it like this. Fitness and health is like a building a snowman! You start with a little ball of snow, you build it and it is not easy to get that first ball to form. You keep rolling and rolling and work hard to get the snowball to form and once you get going, it gets easier and easier. You develop MOMENTUM and once you get to that point, you just keep rolling. Your fitness is the exact same! It is hard to get going, but once you develop the momentum...it is easier and easier! Before you know it....you will be running your first 5K :) And .....what a great feeling it is!!!!!

Be the leader...take control of your health....and help you family do the same! What an amazing feeling!!!!
